Supporting a Black Dog research or community project with a donation can make a huge and sustainable difference to mental health outcomes across Australia. Your support can help us expand existing projects, develop new programs and novel treatments, undertake pilot studies and drive forward with our strategic priorities.
Case study: HSBC
To mark its 150th anniversary HSBC launched a community fund to benefit over 140 community projects wordwide. As part of this program, HSBC Australia is supporting the delivery of two vital Black Dog programs over a 3 year period;
- the development of an innovative adolescent online mental health clinic, delivered to Australian high schools
- national roll-out of mental health education programs to young people, health professionals and communities in rural and regional Australia
By enabling your employees to make regular automated donations directly from their pre-tax pay, staff members are empowered to support those causes that are close to their hearts. Many organisations choose to match their employees' donations too - doubling their community impact.
Working together, we can help promote mental health awareness within your workplace or amongst your customers, while raising much needed funds for mental health research and programs. Donate a percentage of overall sales or a proportion of proceeds from a particular co-branded product to support Black Dog.
Case study: Coates Hire
Coates Hire partnered together to create ‘Don’t let a mate suffer in silence’ campaign. Every equipment hire during the month long campaign resulted in Coates Hire donating a proportion of the funds to Black Dog Institute. Strong advertising and messaging delivered a very successful campaign not only raising substantial funds for Black Dog Institutes work, it also helped create awareness of mental health issues among Coates Hire’s staff and customer.
We can provide your staff with volunteering opportunities, in our office or at an event, arrange mental health presentations and training for staff, assist staff with fundraising initiatives and activities, as well as give them access to our online mental health tools, programs and resources.
Research shows that poor mental health is now the leading cause of sickness absence and long term work incapacity.
Black Dog Institute has developed a number of evidence based workplace mental health education programs that provide practical solutions to help improve the understanding of mental health in the workplace.

Staff fundraising for Black Dog Institute can be a great way to boost teamwork, camaraderie and cooperation. We can get your staff involved in one of our existing community fundraising events or help build a fundraising event especially to suit your business needs.
Case study: Virgin Australia
As part of Exercise Your Mood month in 2016, Virgin Australia hosted a plane pull challenge which involved various teams at Virgin Australia challenging each other to see who could pull a plane the fastest. Not only was this a fundraising challenge but it raised a lot of awareness amongst the staff and community.
Volunteering is a great way to support our work. Whether it's helping out in our office, becoming a community or youth presenter and sharing your story, or spreading the word about Black Dog in your community, you'll help us reach people going through tough times.
