Saving lives using innovative technology

Studies show that many individuals who are at risk of suicide have previously performed internet searches for suicide-related terms.

Dr Sandersan Onie, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Black Dog Institute, is focused on exploring the power of technology to reach people at risk of suicide with just the right support, at just the right moment.

Dr Onie's innovative program uses algorithms to identify individuals at risk of suicide and target them with advertising designed to lead them away from suicide and towards personalised, deeply engaging support pages.

Together, we can use this same technology to give people who are thinking of ending their lives just one more chance. A chance that could change the trajectory of their lives forever.

This is ground-breaking work and it's only possible with the support of generous and compassionate people like you.

"Any sort of interruption, whether it’s a tap on the shoulder, a text message, or even an internet pop-up, could potentially save someone’s life."
